Experimental rig

in both the starcraft 2 intro and all these industry robot scenes... there is one thing that really adds to it, and it it the overlaping motion of cables and elements attached to these robots.. it looks like whole scene is alive

So I was experimenting with ways I could achieve this effect in maya and I came up with solution...

It took me few weeks to figure this out because there is no detailed tutorials on internet but the best way to do this is using maya [hair solver] and combination of both [iK handles] and [iK spline handles]

this gives me full cotroll of both ends of bone chain so I can parent them to different parts of robot's body

And one more rig, this time using deformers [ nonlinear bend]
I added nurbs circle and parrented deformer controll to it so its easier to controol it
to have precise controol I also added used multiply divide node in Hypershade

aaand few more robots

KUKA - welding and painting robots

so I did some research into robots used in industry, especialy in car factories

right now I'm quite obsessed with the motion of these robots, and how they coordinate their movements

here is few links for videos I was checking out

 - a pervect example of what could possibly robot caryying my CBM tanks look like.. it needs to be heavy duty and robust because these tanks are heavy

and few images as well showing details of these robots....

Just remembered intro from starcraft 2
I really like the setting of this scene, kind of like what I want to do

really good inspiration for the ceiling... i remember I wa sstruggling with the way I want to place lights in the lab

round shape of the room allows to pretty much coppy and paste some elements to cover large areas

whole room is build around the platform in the centre where marine's exoskeleton get assembled

and now the motion of all robotic hands, the idea i'm playing with right now

I did few sketches of CBMt so I know what can it possibly look like,

I was thinking abot adding devices replacing function of human organs

CBM Tank

The main reason why I made lab was that I wated to use it as background for final renders of the tank with bacteria in the middle of the room.

Maybe a bit irrational thinking.. anyway

I Decided to start with building an actual tank so I have the ''core'' element of my environment

I named it CBM tank... which will be part of CBM unit/module... Device used for [controlled bacteria multiplication] - I sort of made up this term but it sounds right for what is an actual purpose of this device

New start

So it has been decided.... I'm making enviroment and 3D assets for animation

I think animation is much better way to tell a story

but this scene with few milions of polygons is almost imposible to render

so probably need a new scene, I will deffinitelly reuse the models from this lab but there wont be that many of them, because I will rather have finished and detailed objects than tons of grey models
all my research from last semester is focused at bacteria and viruses and the way they can be used to enhance human body....

byt when I look at my renders I don't see anything that would tell what's happening there

Here again

Lately I was more thinking about how do I wanna continue in my work rather than actually doing something.

I realized that the lab I created is nat what i was actually planning to do

Depth of field

Deus Ex: Human Revolution title sequence

Next step

I was thinking what should I do next, and what to focus at in this semester. Since the beginning I was planing to make a short video showing the lab. Also the models in the scene are quite hi-res so I don't think It would be a good idea trying to make it look like one level of the game.

I was looking at some animations ( game intros and short films) and I noticed that they never show the whole scene. They rather blur the background and play with tepth of field to make the important objects stand out.
And I'm going to do the same. If I wanted to finish my scene I cand spen a year or longer modeling hundrids of objects to fill out every bit of empty space.
Or I can focus on the important and spend time finishing, and detailing objects that I really want to stand out.

Scene from First semester

Here is seven final renders or my Lab scene... unfortunately, I did not manage to finish by the end of first semester. But I am quite happy that I managed to give it the final shape, It is not textured yet but I know what do I need to do next to finish the scene
